Probing Intermediate Mass Higgs Interactions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

چکیده
We analyze the potentiality of the CERN Large Hadron Collider to probe the Higgs boson couplings to the electroweak gauge bosons. We parametrize the possible deviations of these couplings due to new physics in a model independent way, using the most general dimension–six effective lagrangian where the SU(2)L ⊗ U(1)Y is realized linearly. For intermediate Higgs masses, the decay channel into two photons is the most important one for Higgs searches at the LHC. We study the effects of these new interactions on the Higgs production mechanism and its subsequent decay into two photons. We show that the LHC will be sensitive to new physics scales beyond the present limits extracted from the LEP and Tevatron physics.

Higgs Decay to Top Quarks at Hadron Colliders
Higgs bosons which decay principally to top quarks, such as in the minimal supersymmetric model, produce a peak-dip structure in the gg → tt̄ invariant-mass spectrum. This structure is potentially observable at the CERN Large Hadron Collider.
متن کاملProbing the light neutral Higgs boson scenario of the CP-violating MSSM Higgs sector at the LHC
In the CP-violating Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), for certain values of the CP-violating phases associated to the universal trilinear couplings (At, Ab) and the gluino mass (Mg̃), e.g., ΦCP = 60 ◦ or 90, for MH+ ∼ 140 GeV and tanβ ∼ 2 − 5, the lightest Higgs boson mass (MH1) is ∼ 50 GeV. This mass interval is still allowed from standard LEP Higgs searches because of a strongly su...
متن کاملPerspective on This Week’s Announcement in High Energy Particle Physics and the Mechanism of Gauge Symmetry Breaking
This week, the Large Hadron Collider at CERN announced the discovery of a new boson with mass of ~125 GeV. Many have interpreted these results as evidence in favor of the Higgs boson believed to provide a mechanism for subatomic particle mass generation. However, CERN stated in their announcement that the true identity of the new boson, if confirmed, has yet to be determined. In this article, I...
متن کاملHiggs Physics Review of recent results and prospects from ATLAS and CMS
An overview of recent results in Higgs boson physics obtained with the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the Large Hadron Collider located at CERN, Geneva, is presented. The focus is on measurements of the properties of the recently discovered Higgs boson with a mass of about 125 GeV. A brief selection of results in searches for Higgs bosons beyond the Standard Model is given, and prospects of futur...
متن کاملProbing top flavour-changing neutral scalar couplings at the CERN LHC
Top decays into a light Higgs boson and an up or charm quark can reach detectable levels in Standard Model extensions with two Higgs doublets or with new exotic quarks, and in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. Using both a standard and a neural network analysis we show that the CERN Large Hadron Collider will give 3σ evidence of decays with Br(t → Hc) ≥ 6.5 × 10−5 or set a limit Br(t →...
